Simply stated, a permit from the county sheriff is no longer required for the purchase or sale of a concealable firearm. Federal firearms laws already in place will still govern the sale of handguns and a background check is still required. Except in certain circumstances, the sale of handguns or handgun ammunition to a juvenile is still not permitted and there are other Federal restrictions on what Nixon called "certain people ... in certain circumstances."

Flashback to Just After September 11, 2001:

Model for air travel security may be El Al 

(CNN) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is considering measures that would dramatically increase security aboard U.S. airliners
in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

September 26, 2001

"If you're a passenger on El Al, most likely you will be observed from the minute that you left your car or you have been dropped off ... and then you will have met the security agent before you go to check in to your flight," said Issy Boim, president of Air Security International.

When El Al passengers arrive at Israel's Ben Gurion airport or any other airport that services the airline, they undergo an extensive interview by trained security personnel.

During the interrogation, ticket holders are also psychologically evaluated. Their entire makeup is judged by tone of voice, mood and body language.

The information is sent by computer to international law enforcement agencies, such as Interpol or Scotland Yard, for instant evaluation.

If there are doubts, the passenger is not allowed on the plane.

Security experts said El Al Airlines leaves absolutely nothing to chance.

Mr. POE: Mr. Speaker, the next sound you hear will be the rumble of thousands of Mexican trucks streaming across our southern border. The U.S. Government has agreed to allow 100 Mexican trucking companies to send trucks on the highways and byways of America. Presently, Mexican trucks may only go 20 miles inside the U.S. border. The U.S. Government says they will inspect the trucks for safety and inspect the drivers as well. Yeah, right. There are already 6,000 trucks a day crossing in each direction just between Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; and only a fraction of these are inspected.  More at link above.
